Kenneth Wayne Loftin Jr.

Kenneth Wayne Loftin Jr., 82, of Astoria, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, in Astoria.

He was born March 1, 1928, in Bandon, to Kenneth W. Loftin Sr. and Florence G. Coats.

He attended school in Coos Bay.

In 1949, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Elaine Therien. They later di-vorced. The couple moved to Junction City, where they had four children.

On Aug. 16, 1968, he married Nancy E. Stimson Kankkonen in Warrenton. She preceded him in death Sept. 2, 2010.

Mr. Loftin was a drafting instructor in the 1960s and 1970s at Tongue Point Job Corps Center in Astoria. He moved to Stayton in 1976, and lived there for 32 years. In 1977, he went back to school to earn his master's degree in education. He taught in the Salem and Eugene school districts. He then was a vocational counselor for a state of Oregon correctional institution until his retirement in 1989.

Family members said his hobbies included golf, woodworking, gardening, and traveling with the 89ers Good Sam Club in their motor home. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula Loftin and Dave Imus of Eugene; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Mary Loftin and Charles and Picky Loftin, all of Eugene, and Richard and Clare Loftin of Yachats; two stepdaughters, Lori Dowell and her husband, Tim, of Warrenton, and Carol Dudash and her husband, Jerry, of Aumsville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Alice Stimson of Auburn, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Katrina Smith and her husband, Michael, of Astoria, Timothy Dowell and his wife, Sherry, of Warrenton, Jason Dudash of Aumsville and Lily, Wayne, Maria and Reann Loftin of Eugene; and four great-grandchildren, Natasha and Angeline Dowell of Warrenton, Taylor Smith of Astoria and Aven Bruce of Eugene.

A memorial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at Weddle Funeral Home, 1777 N. Third Ave. in Stayton. A reception will follow at Weddle Funeral Home.
