Anna Margaret Hill, age 91, of Astoria, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, in Astoria. She was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Astoria, to Victor Ellis and Greta (Klemetti) Malen. She graduated from Astoria High School. On Nov. 3, 1951, she married John E. Hill in Astoria. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and clerical worker. She worked at various clerical jobs before her marriage. She became a homemaker while raising her children, then returned to work in the business office at Columbia Memorial Hospital in 1975. She and her husband retired in 1985. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Finnish Brotherhood and the Anchor Club, and was president of Lutheran Church Women of Zion. Family members said she enjoyed the piano, gardening, baking, crafts and taking Finnish speaking classes at Clatsop Community College. She enjoyed being actively involved in her children’s activities, including the Scandinavian folk dancing group. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband during her retirement years. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Steve Pelosi of Atlanta, Melissa and Dick Powell of Astoria and Sue Anne and Darryl Olson of Stayton; five grandchildren, Peter Pelosi of Vineland, N.J., Max and Riley Pelosi of Atlanta, Tyler Olson and his wife, Paige Huggler-Olson, and Leah Olson, all of Portland; a sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Fran Connolly of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Pat Malen of Yarrow Point, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Viljo Malen; and three sisters, Vera Craig, Aune Malmberg and Corrine Sjolund. A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Peace Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 565 12th St., Astoria, OR 97103 or a charity of one’s choice.
