Carl Delmer Boman

Carl Delmer “Del” Boman passed away very peacefully at the age of 95 at Clatsop Care Center.

Del was born in Astoria, Oregon, on Jan. 20, 1923, to Olof Boman and Anna Nilsson Boman. He spent his first eight years in the Larson Logging Camp in Deep River, Washington.

The family moved to Astoria in June 1931, where he attended Lewis & Clark Consolidated Grade School and graduated in 1941 from Astoria High School.

He enlisted in the Navy Seabees in 1942, and spent three years in the Aleutian Islands and the New Hebrides and Wake Island before being discharged in December 1945.

He married Maryann Mattson on Sept. 8, 1946, in Astoria, Oregon, and they lived in the Lewis & Clark area for the next 50 years.

He was a partner with Ray Johansen in Johansen & Boman Rafting Co. from 1952 to 1958, and was then employed as a boom man (log rafter) for 38 years with W & W Logging and Nygaard Logging.

He was a lifetime member of the Astoria Elks Lodge No. 180, and American Legion Post No. 12, plus he was a longtime driver who transported blood to the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center in Portland.

He is survived by a son, Dick Boman, of Astoria; a daughter, Carol (Tom) Atwood, of Astoria; a grandson, Andy Lindstrom, of Astoria; a sister-in-law, Jean Mattson, of Richmond, Texas; and four nieces and two cousins in the U.S., plus numerous cousins in Sweden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olof (1975) and Anna (1978); and his wife, Maryann (1999).

At his request there will be no service.
