Carol Marie Sheker

Carol Marie Sheker was born on Dec. 15, 1948, in Astoria, to Joe and Jean (Gilbert) Melvin. The family lived in various places between Astoria and St. Joseph, Missouri, finally settling in Astoria in 1957.

Carol attended St. Mary, Star of the Sea School until 10th grade, and then transferred to Astoria High School.

She married Clifford Sheker on July 19, 1969. They had three children, Carrie, Cindy and Cory. They later separated and remained friends.

She was active in 4-H and the 4-H Extension Office for several years. Carol was a tax consultant for many years, and also worked and retired from Fred Meyer. Carol was also the bookkeeper for the Olney-Walluski Water Association.

She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Melvin Lengyel (Tom) and Susan Melvin; daughter, Cindy Woodard (Brett); and son, Cory Sheker. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Audis (Taylor) Sheker, Callie Sheker, Tregg, Issac and Josef Woodard and Madyson Bryan (Sheker); two great-granddaughters, Paizzlynn and Kopelynn Sheker; and Carol’s best friend, Muriel.

Carol liked to travel to foreign countries, including England, Germany, Budapest and Istanbul. She also traveled to many states for vacations.

She also enjoyed camping and gardening, and loved planting flowers and shrubs on the bank behind her house. Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, especially on the holidays.

Carol was my best friend, as well as my mom, and I miss her every day. She will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by Clifford, and their daughter, Carrie Sheker.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
