Catherine “Kitty” Laverne Munro was born Dec. 6, 1935, and entered into rest on her birthday, Dec. 6, in Seaside.
She was born to Ethel and William Moran in Portland, then moved with her family, including eight siblings, to Dixie Mountain, and attended St. Matthew Catholic School. At 14, she moved to Hillsboro, where she attended St. Mary’s of the Valley Academy.
She had three children — Daniel, Laura and Colleen Henderson. In 1964, Kitty moved her family to Alaska and spent 14 years there, where she worked as a payroll clerk for seven villages. There she met her loving husband, Gib Munro, and they were married on Nov. 9, 1972.
When her daughter, Laura, tragically died, Kitty and Gib retired and adopted and raised their two granddaughters (Laura’s children), Erin and Leslie. They moved to Astoria, until the passing of her loving husband, Gib, in 2011. She eventually moved to Seaside, where she resided until her death.
Kitty cherished her family, and was a special role model for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who loved her very much. She had many nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved dearly. She attended every family wedding, reunion and funeral, even when she lived in Alaska.
Kitty enjoyed spending time with her family and celebrating her Irish heritage. She made seven trips to Ireland with her family, and they celebrated many St. Patrick’s Days together.
She was an avid cook and baker, and enjoyed ironing. On a cold winter’s night she couldn’t pass up a hot jimmy (an Irish drink) to share with friends. Above all, Kitty loved people and enjoyed socializing; she was a great friend to everyone she met.
Kitty had a very strong faith, and was an active member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where she held many offices in the Catholic Daughters. She was a true angel on Earth, and always gave a helping hand when needed. She will be truly missed.
Kitty is survived by her children, Dan Henderson (Nancy) and Colleen Henderson; her two siblings, Lois Andersen (Ed) and William Moran; her adopted children/grandchildren, Erin Fennerty (Erik) and Leslie Ramsey; grandchildren, Suzette Henderson, Cory Humble (Debbie), Matthew Henderson (Elizabeth), Colin Henderson (Deven) and Savannah Henderson; and her great-grandchildren, Liam and Kieran Fennerty, Austin and Addison Ramsey, Mia and Jayden Henderson, and Jessica, Jake and Jared Humble.
