David Allan Bue, 72, of Astoria, passed away peacefully on the evening of Nov. 11 at Providence Seaside Hospital after battling cancer this year.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Paula; daughters, Talia Johnston (David) and Jennifer Meisner (Keith); sisters, Linda Aho (Tim) and Jean Ewald (Mark); brothers, Larry Bue and Daniel Bue; and brothers-in-law, Michael Kinney (Cheryl), Steve Kinney (Denise) and Kevin Kinney.
Dave was most proud of being Papa to his five grandchildren, Kristen, Brenna, Katharina, Mason and Elizabeth, along with numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, who were all the center of his life. He was a family man with a big heart, and an even bigger personality.
Dave loved camping, playing cards, kayaking, music and was an avid reader. He grew up in Astoria the eldest son, and middle child, of Peggy and Allan Bue. He loved sports and grew up playing baseball and basketball, earning a scholarship to Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, for the latter.
Dave was a Seattle Mariners fan, and looked forward to an annual trip to Seattle to catch a game with his family. As a proud Papa, he enthusiastically followed his grandchildren’s sports and activities.
He was a man of many interests, spending 25 years working in the grocery business, followed with a real estate career, which eventually led to restoring and rebuilding homes around Astoria.
Dave had a sharp sense of humor and always had time for a laugh or joke. He was stubborn as the day is long, but also generous, caring, heartfelt and a little mischievous. He was a friend to all who knew him, whether you met him yesterday or 50 years ago.
We imagine he is enjoying a good steak, a game of cards and a campfire under the stars.
There will be a service at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at Peace First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., with a celebration of life open house at the Astoria Moose Lodge, 420 17th St., to follow.
If you are so moved, please donate to CAST for Kids Foundation (castforkids.org), or Consejo Hispano (consejohispano.org) in lieu of flowers.
