Donelda Yvonne Annat

May 25, 1935 — April 4, 2024

Donelda Yvonne Meldrum Annat was born in Ocean Falls, British Columbia, on May 25, 1935, to Yvonne Orr and Douglas Orr.

Five years later, she and her two brothers were adopted by her aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Douglas Meldrum.

She graduated from Ocean Falls High School, and went right to work for the Crown Zellerbach paper mill. She worked in the office as a payroll clerk.

She met and married James Annat, who had immigrated from Scotland to work for Crown Zellerbach. Together they had four children, James Annat Jr., Sheena Killion (Tim), Douglas Annat (Donna) and Gillian Montgomery.

They also had five grandchildren, Travis Beedle (Alea), Mandy Beedle, Jeremy Annat (Michelle), Brian Montgomery (Katie) and Douglas Montgomery (Kailey); and 13 great-grandchildren.

Donelda and James, with their four children, moved to Knappa in 1967. At the time, she was a stay-at-home mother and an active member of the community. She even wrote stories for the small community newspaper called The Alder Patch.

Donelda was a great one for being in clubs like Bunco, Fat Ladies Club, Over The Hill Gang and the Red Hat Society. She also volunteered at the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce and was president of the Warrenton Rotary Club.

She went to work at the Knappa Market, where she was truly loved by everyone. She was the first friend to many people who moved to the Knappa community.

The job she worked at the longest was as the night shift manager for The Dutch Cup Restaurant in Astoria. She made many friends from all over the world.

Donelda loved to travel and see new things. She spent three months in Mexico in 1982, and eight months living in Paris.

She also visited her son, Douglas, who was stationed in Rota, Spain. After spending a few days exploring the town, they traveled by train to Paris, London and Scotland. Throughout the years, she made many trips to Scotland and back to Canada to visit family.

Donelda was truly an angel who will be missed by so many people.
