Dorothy Isabelle Boyle

April 1, 1914 — October 17, 2018

Dorothy Boyle passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 at the age of 104.

Dorothy Isebelle Daggett Morgan Boyle was born on April 1, 1914 in Everett, Washington, to Lorne and Ellen McLeod Daggett. She grew up in Saskatchewan and Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

She came to Astoria to live with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Andrich, who owned Service Cleaners. She attended junior high at Astor School. After graduating from junior high, she went home to Salmon Arm, British Columbia, to attend high school, later coming back to finish her senior year at Seaside High School, graduating in the Class of 1932.

After graduation, she worked for her uncle in the office at Service Cleaners. Dorothy began her banking career at the Old Bank of Astoria, which later became U.S. National Bank of Oregon. In 1939, she left Astoria for San Francisco, where she attended business school and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank.

In 1941, she married Tracy P. Morgan and traveled with him in the military. After his military retirement they settled in Wysox,

Pennsylvania, later moving with their three children to Seaside, Oregon. The Morgans divorced in 1968.

While in Seaside, Dorothy was employed at the U.S. National Bank. When Ben Franklin Federal Savings and Loan was established in Seaside, she became the savings supervisor, later becoming assistant manager. In 1980, when Ben Franklin opened an Astoria

branch, she was named manager. Later that same year she married Roy E. Boyle, and retired from Ben Franklin Savings and Loan.

Mrs. Boyle was active in local Seaside organizations. She was a charter member of the Seaside Museum and Historical Society, served on the Seaside City Budget Committee, and was a past president of the Seaside-Astoria Credit Women International and the Seaside BPW and a recipient of the BPW Golden Torch Award.

After marrying Roy, she became an avid golfer, and served as president of the Women of the Astoria Golf and Country Club. She and Roy loved traveling and went on many enjoyable trips. Dorothy served as president of the Columbia House Condo Association, and was an active member and elder of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church on Clatsop Plains. She was a member of Columbia River Maritime Museum Friends Group, and served as treasurer for a number of years.

She kept her mind sharp writing a monthly column for the church newsletter, and was a contributing writer for the Astoria Senior Citizen’s Newsletter and Cumtux. She was a member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was still working at the gift shop at 96 years young!

Dorothy had a love of life, a very positive outlook and a strong faith in God. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, reading and “loved” digging clams.

Survivors include her daughters, Diane M. Keetch (Stan), of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Sharon L. Morgan, of Pateros, Washington; grandson, “RJ” Keetch, of Colville, Washington; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Douglas Campbell, of Dana Point, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tracy P. Morgan and Roy E. Boyle; a son, Tracy D. Morgan; brothers, Kenzie Daggett, Nathaniel Daggett and Lorne Daggett, of Canada; and a niece/adopted daughter, Marie Morgan Schuck (John), of Eugene.
