Dorothy Emilene Brim Morisse

March 2, 1928 — October 23, 2023

Dorothy “Emilene” Brim Morisse, 95, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23 in Astoria.

She was born on March 2, 1928, and raised in Horton, Kansas, where she graduated from Horton High School. Her parents, Melvin and Della Brim, then moved their family of six children to Warrenton, where Emilene met and married Chet Morisse.

Emilene and Chet soon welcomed three children: Barbara Anne, Steve and Allen. Emilene enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom, and she helped her husband run C & E Auto Repair in Warrenton for many years. During this time, she enjoyed camping, deer hunting trips to Eastern Oregon with family and friends and all the joys and activities of raising her children.

In 1975, Emilene and Chet decided to move to Quartzsite, Arizona, where they developed a desert community, the La Paz Valley subdivision. In the summers they escaped the desert heat, living in their second home and “hunting camp” in Seneca, where they welcomed many fellow deer hunting friends from Clatsop County.

Emilene and Chet were always looking for adventure. They made many great memories with their grandchildren, who lived close by and in Oregon. Their life was full, and together they spent their later years making friends in the Quartzsite community and having all the adventures of living in the desert.

Emilene moved back to Clatsop County in 2004 after the passing of Chet, her husband of 57 years. She lived out her life keeping busy with family, friends and especially enjoyed the fun lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She’ll always be remembered for her ready smile, kind heart and love of life!

She is survived by her son, Steve Morisse (Shirley); grandchildren, Jennie Morisse, Rebecca Morisse, Amy Morisse Bornstein (Andrew), Matthew Lewis (Jovone), Meagan Lewis and Carrie Morisse-Bennett (Larry); great-grandchildren, Garrett Hillard, Maddie Case, Gus Bornstein, Cam Bornstein, Phoenix Lewis, Logan Morisse and Christopher Avery Jr.; great-great-grandchildren, Layla and Gunner Morisse; sister, Sue Eck; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet Morisse; daughter, Barbara Anne Lewis; son, Allen Morisse; and grandson, Luke Lewis.

For the past few years, her home has been at Clatsop Retirement Village in Astoria. The friendships and loving care the entire staff provided helped her finish 95 years of a full and happy life. Thank you to all who shared in her life, and special thanks to all the staff at Clatsop Care Center and Lower Columbia Hospice.
