Eileen Fay Tarabochia, of Astoria, died at Peace Health Medical Center in Longview, Washington, on Nov. 26, 2018. She was 76 years old.
Eileen was born on Aug. 31, 1942, to Ole A. and Anita (Davis) Askeland in Creston, Illinois. Shortly after, the family moved back to Astoria to be closer to family, as Ole served in World War II. Eileen attended Lewis and Clark Grade School and Astoria High School.
On May 31, 1960, Eileen married Frank Tarabochia in Astoria. They were married for 52 years when Frank died on March 9, 2013.
Eileen was a homemaker and was proud to be a “fisherman’s wife,” taking impeccable care of the household and the girls, while Frank fished in Alaska and Puget Sound. Eileen loved going to the float house in Woody Island, near the Tarabochia’s fishing drifts, when fishing started “Up River!” Eileen would fish with Frank, and help him with net work. Later, when gillnetting slowed down, Frank did test fishing for the state of Oregon, and Eileen recorded the data for the state.
Eileen enjoyed her family, cooking, baking, gardening, interior design, jewelry, tennis and the Boston Red Sox! She was proud of her Norwegian heritage! She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Astoria.
Eileen is survived by her daughters, Kimberly (Barry) Minkoff, of Svensen, and Stephanie (Chester) Bushnell, of Warrenton; grandchildren, Nick North, of Svensen, Megan North, of Astoria, Eric Jenson, of Astoria, and Natalie Bushnell and Ashton Bushnell, of Warrenton; sisters, Kay Rettew, of Astoria, and Cheri (Bob) Temple, of Warrenton, Beverly Askeland, of Portland, and Devri Pall, of California; brothers-in-law, Joe Tarabochia Jr., of Astoria, Mike (Kathie) Tarabochia, of Gladstone and Bob Temple, of Warrenton; sisters-in-law, Judi Tarabochia, of Eugene, Joan Tarabochia, of Canby, Kathie Tarabochia, of Gladstone, and Loveen Tarabochia, of Astoria; special friend, Linda Martin, of Astoria; and many nieces and nephews.
