Leo Bushnell was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Auburn, California, the last of five children (three brothers and one sister) to Edward F. and Lizzie Balderston Bushnell. The family migrated to Washington state in the 1930s.
Leo married Clara M. Hubbard on Nov. 21, 1944. They were married 58 years, until her death on March 31, 2003. They raised two children. In 1952, they moved the family from Tokeland, Washington, to Warrenton, Oregon.
Leo was a commercial fisherman since he was 13 years old, starting with Nelson Crab Co. in Tokeland, Washington, fishing out of Willapa, and ending with the Warrenton Deep Sea Co. He was a troller, crab fisherman, and then a charter boat captain for Bud Charlton.
Leo was a lifetime member of the Masons.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; son, Randy; his parents and all his siblings; and a nephew.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane (Rod) Black; grandson, Shawn Black; grandson, Chester (Stephanie) Bushnell; great-granddaughter, Natalie Bushnell; great-grandson, Ashton Bushnell; granddaughter, Crystal and her daughters, Addison and Aubree; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leo will be greatly missed.
There will be no services, but there will be a gathering of family and friends in September.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Deep Sea Fisherman’s Benefit Fund, or to a charity of your choice.
