Lila Pearl Schlavin died peacefully Nov. 18, 2018, age 94, in Seaside, Ore.
Born in Defiance, Ohio Oct. 22, 1924 to Ralph and Lois (Forsyth) Moon, Lila attended Bluffton College and graduated Sherwood Music School, Chicago in 1946. Her marriage that year to Weikko Kopra produced four sons. In 1966 she married Lyle Schlavin, adding Lyle's daughter Diane. "L & L" together had a daughter, Lisa.
Lila loved piano and taught for years. She accompanied the Fort Wayne Ballet and later played in the Portland Piano Trio, and in duos with cellist Jane Day and pianist Florence Chino. She once even performed on live radio for more than a million listeners.
With family, Lila fished and hunted yearly (she could shoot a dime out of a tree), and she traveled the U.S. and abroad. She enjoyed dogs, crosswords, mysteries and maple bars. She loved her family fiercely.
Lila was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Lyle; and sons, Weikko and Kevin. She is survived by sister, Ruth; sons, David and John; daughters, Diane and Lisa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A private service was held. In her honor, please consider listening to Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 or Chopin's Nocturne Op. 15, No. 2.
