Lola White Jones

November 17, 1932 — June 19, 2018

Lola Essiemae Jones, born Nov. 17, 1932, in Lumber City, Georgia, passed away with loving family members by her side on June 19, 2018, in Astoria, Oregon. Lola was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband, Lockland Vance Jones (Pop); grandson, Nathan Roberson; and son-in-law, Kenneth Church.

Raised in Lumber City by her parents, Oscar and Viola White, she was the sixth child of seven, and excelled in sports, including being an all-star on her high school basketball team.

Lola enjoyed a varied professional life including bookkeeping, real estate and telephone operation in the great state of Texas. Another one of Lola’s favorite things to do was traveling with her husband during a successful family-owned commercial fishing career.

Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends in the commercial fishing industry, even though they were all over the southern part of the U.S. and Alaska. Lola also enjoyed fish and shrimp dinners, gatherings on boats with other fishing families, and loved donating her time to the Fisherman’s Wives’ Club. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and how it would bring her beloved family together.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: son, Chuck, and daughter-in law, Esther Jones; daughter, Pamela and son-in-law, Greg Hitchman; daughter, Peggy Church; and nephew, Newel Sandiford and his wife, June. Grandchildren include Jason Jones and family, Shannon Roberson-Karna and family, and Jennifer Rizzi and family; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank dedicated and compassionate individuals at Clatsop Care Center in Astoria, as well as Dr. Kevin Baxter. The family would also like to thank the wonderful people at hospice, as their care and compassion didn’t stop at Lola, but also extended many times to her loving family.

A viewing will be today, June 22, at Caldwell’s Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon, from 5 to 7 p.m.

A celebration of life will be held at Lewis and Clark Bible Church, 35082 Seppa Road, Astoria, Oregon, on Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m.

Flowers can be delivered to Cadwell’s during the public viewing, or in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the local hospice and or Clatsop Care Center.
