Samuel E. Patrick was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and later moved to California with his family. He attended Wilson High School and also earned a bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked in law enforcement for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for 26 years. On retirement, Sam and his wife, Myrna, moved to Oregon. Sam was dedicated to public service, serving on numerous Clatsop County boards, as well as on the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners and the Port of Astoria budget committee. In addition, he was a volunteer with the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, and Posse, and other organizations. He was also active in the U.S. Marine Corps League detachment. Sam is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Myrna; son, Shawn (Pia); and grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley and Ryan. Services are at 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1465 Grand Ave. Interment will follow at Knappa Prairie Cemetery, 92892 Knappa Dock Road.
