Shannon Lee Westerholm

November 20, 1975 — July 15, 2018

Shannon Lee Westerholm, 42, passed away at home on July 15, 2018 in Svensen, Oregon. Shannon was born in Reno, Nevada, on Nov. 20, 1975 to Linda Simpson.

Shannon attended school in Reno until the death of her mother, at which time she was adopted by her aunt and uncle and brought to Astoria to finish her education.

In 1995, she met her future husband, Gerritt Westerholm, whom she married in 1997. They lived in Astoria for a few years, having their first son, Austin. They moved to Knappa, Oregon, and had two more sons, Hunter and Mason. Along with her husband, her sons were her pride and joy.

Shannon always worked in the medical field, which showed her generous heart and giving nature. She started in the obstetrics department at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria and then worked at Providence Seaside Hospital as an emergency room technician. So organized and efficient, her co-workers hated to see her having to leave when her heart problems caused her to retire early. However, her skills and knowledge were transferred to her family and friends who needed her special care.

Shannon leaves behind her husband of 21 years, Gerritt; sons, Austin, Hunter and Mason, all of Svensen, Oregon; sister, Teresa Blila, of Terre Haute, Indiana; father, LeRoy Morrell, of The Dalles, Oregon; aunt, Joyce Morrell, of Astoria, Oregon; cousin, Melissa (Wes) Padgett, of Astoria, Oregon; cousin, Randy (Linda) Morrell, of Kelso, Washington; cousin, Annette Morrell, of Texas, and their respective children.

She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Connie, of Knappa, Oregon; brother-in-law, Jason (Tiffany) of Gresham, Oregon; uncle, Alan (Kaci) Quimby, of Svensen, Oregon, and their respective children; aunt, Irene and Dennis (Mary) Loveless, of Montana; and all the nieces, nephews and cousins from both families.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda, and her aunt, Roberta.

Shannon will be dearly missed by all who benefited from her care and whom she loved.

There will be a celebration of life with a potluck on Sunday, Aug. 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Wickiup Grange off U.S. Highway 30 in Svensen, Oregon.

Shannon was a staunch supporter of the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association and the Cerebral Palsy Association. Any donation to these associations or a charity of one’s choice is greatly appreciated.
