Sharon Ann Tuveng

December 25, 1945 — October 29, 2023

Sharon Ann Tuveng, of Astoria, passed away in Milwaukie on Oct. 29, at the age of 77.

Sharon Ann Rogers was born in Tillamook on Dec. 25, 1945, to Howard and Hazel Rogers. She was the second of four children. They later moved from Tillamook to the Fernhill area of Astoria.

As a child, she was active in 4-H, where she showed sheep and beef. She graduated from Astoria High School. After graduation, Sharon took some business classes at Clatsop Community College.

Sharon married Eugene Curtis Tuveng on May 22, 1964. They had three daughters, Lisa, Dina and Tara. They purchased a home in the Olney area, and resided there for many years. They then started Pacific Farms.

Sharon loved the 4-H program, and started a 4-H club with Ginger Killion. The club was called the Pitchforkers Livestock Club. Sharon stayed at home and made sure that her children were involved in everything that they could be.

She loved the 4-H program. Her children participated in cooking, canning, home economics, sewing, veterinary science, sheep, swine, beef, dairy — you name it, they did it. She was so proud.

Sharon was a lifetime member of the Clatsop County 4-H program, and served 50 years in the capacity of leader, sheep superintendent and in later years, as a resource leader. In 1998, Sharon was honored by Oregon State University as an Extension Cooperator of the Year.

Sharon and Eugene were also very supportive of the Astoria chapter of the National FFA Organization, receiving the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award in 1985.

Sharon served several years as a member of the Clatsop County Fair Board. The last stretch was during the time that they were raising money, and went to the voters to support the building of the new (current) fairgrounds. Sharon always had the best interests of the Clatsop County youth at heart.

Sharon was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi group in Astoria for 35-plus years. She was named Woman of the Year in 1986. She loved serving her community and being part of the many events that her “Beta Sisters” were part of. Some of the activities that she enjoyed were the Christmas Craft Fair and the Wishing Tree Project.

In the 1980s, Sharon opened a crafts, coffee and flowers store in downtown Astoria. She looked forward to people stopping by to purchase their coffee beans, buy an arrangement or just chat.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Tuveng.
She is survived by her three daughters and their families: Lisa (Willie) Nyberg, Dina (Thomas) Eyer and Tara Constantine; her grandchildren, Brittany (Dalton) Goetsch, Kaylee Nyberg (Seth Makinson), Kelsey (Matt) Taylor, Brandon Eyer and Kory Constantine (Jenna Franco); and great-grandchildren, Wyatt Goetsch, Macie and Aleah Taylor and Nash Makinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Clatsop County 4-H. They can be dropped off at the Clatsop County 4-H/OSU Extension Service Office, 2001 Marine Drive, Room 210, in Astoria, or brought to the service.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Olney Grange, 89342 Highway 202.
